This free CISI ICWIM knowledge check is a short diagnostic, not a prediction of your official exam result. Its five questions sample different relationships from the International Certificate in Wealth & Investment Management syllabus: bond prices, client suitability, collective-investment structures, portfolio risk and protection needs.
If you first need the qualification facts, syllabus weights, recognition and booking information, read the CISI Wealth & Investment Management qualification guide. The current official assessment contains 100 questions, so use this page only to identify where deeper revision may be needed.

What Your Score Means
This five-question score is too small to estimate an official result. Use it as a routing signal:
| Score | Useful interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| 0–2 | Several sampled relationships need work | Return to the official workbook objectives behind every question and rebuild the concepts |
| 3–4 | Your foundation is developing, but at least one area needs repair | Explain every answer without looking, then answer fresh questions on the weak elements |
| 5 | You understood this small sample | Move to unfamiliar, timed questions across all eight elements rather than repeating this set |
A perfect score may reflect genuine knowledge, familiar concepts or good guessing. A lower score can be more valuable if it exposes a weakness early enough to correct it.
Turn Each Mistake into a Revision Task
For every incorrect or uncertain answer, record:
- the official syllabus element and learning objective;
- whether the problem was knowledge, application, calculation, reading or timing;
- the rule or relationship in your own words;
- one new example that changes the numbers or client facts; and
- the date you will test the concept again.
Do not immediately repeat the same question until you remember its position. That measures familiarity with the page, not the ability to solve a new exam question.
The Exam Coverage This Quiz Does Not Test
The five questions above do not cover the full ICWIM specification. You still need to study all eight elements:
- The Financial Services Sector;
- Industry Regulation;
- Asset Classes and Financial Markets;
- Collective Investments;
- Economics and Investment Analysis;
- Investment Management;
- Investment Advice; and
- Lifetime Financial Provision.
The two highest-weighted elements are Economics and Investment Analysis and Investment Advice, with an indicative 21 questions each. Use our ICWIM syllabus and exam-tips article to allocate revision time accurately.
Move from Diagnosis to Timed Practice
Once you can explain these concepts, try the ICWIM practice questions with worked explanations. Then progress to fresh mixed-topic mocks under realistic timing and review every uncertain answer, including guesses that happened to be correct.

This chapter forms the foundation of the ICWIM qualification by exploring how the financial services sector is structured and why it exists. At its core, the sector serves three fundamental purposes: channelling money from those who have surplus capital (investors/savers) to those who need it (borrowers), enabling the transfer and management of risk through products like insurance and derivatives, and providing settlement and payment systems. The 'investment chain' is the central concept — it describes how money flows from individual investors through intermediaries (such as fund managers, custodians, platforms and pension schemes) to businesses and governments who need capital. Understanding each link in this chain is essential.
